PM Modi to visit Haryana on October 9 to unveil a statue of peasant leader Sir Chhotu Ram

New Delhi, October 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state of Haryana to unveil the 64 feet tall statue of late Sir Chhotu Ram at his native village Garhi Sampla in Haryana's Rohtak district on October 9. Sir Chhotu Ram is ought to be one of the messiah of peasants during the independence era.

 

Talking about PM Modi’s visit in the state, Union Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh said that the prime minister will also visit a museum where belongings of Sir Chhotu Ram are kept and see a documentary on his life.

Sir Chhotu Ram was a prominent leader, who worked eternally for the welfare of farmers, and the emancipation of the backward and downtrodden. He is also remembered for his work in the education sector, and other social causes. Sir Chhotu Ram was farmers' voice during the undivided India. Farmers across the country and even in Pakistan remember him because of the courage he showed to protect the rights of the farmers under the British Raj. He helped farmers in getting back their land from money lenders. He is remembered as a hero by the farmers.

After the event, PM Modi will address a public rally where he will unveil a plaque to mark the laying of Foundation Stone of the Rail Coach Refurbishing Karkhana, Sonepat. Once complete, this will be a major repair and maintenance facility for rail coaches in the northern region. It is being set up using modular and prefabricated construction techniques, modern machinery, and environment-friendly features.

The function will also be attended by Governors of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
