All India Radio celebrates Public Service Broadcasting Day

New Delhi, November 12: 71 years ago on this date, father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, visited All India Radio’s studio. This was the only visit of Gandhi to AIR studio. In this memory, November 12 is celebrated as Public Service Broadcasting Day every year.


 

A function has been organized at the premises of All India Radio in New Delhi to mark the occasion. Live broadcast of Public Service Broadcasting Day function, has been organized at Broadcasting House, New Delhi today at 3 pm onwards on Indraprastha & FM Gold.

As India’s National Broadcaster and also the premier Public Service Broadcaster, All India Radio (AIR) has been serving to inform, educate and entertain the masses since its inception, truly living up to its motto – ‘Bahujan Hitaya : Bahujan Sukhaya’.

 

One of the largest broadcasting organizations in the world in terms of the number of languages of broadcast, the spectrum of socio-economic and cultural diversity it serves, AIR’s home service comprises 420 stations today located across the country, reaching nearly 92% of the country’s area and 99.19 % of the total population. AIR originates programming in 23 languages and 146 dialects.
