Tumakuru, Nov 14: Karnataka police on Monday booked journalist Santhosh Thammaiah for his alleged remarks on Tipu Sultan. He was arrested from his residence in Tumakuru and later released on a bail.

According to media reports, a complaint has been registered against Thammaiah who works for a local monthly for making an indecent comment on Tipu Sultan during a program organized against the state-wide celebration of Tipu Jayanthi.

Condemning action against Santhosh Thammaiah, principle opposition party BJP launched a blistering attack on the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.

Senior BJP leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje took to Twitter and slammed Karnataka government for crushing the voice of dissent.

Responding to the development, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha also backed Thammaiah and took a swipe at the state government’s move against the scribe.
