Tamil Nadu CM calls on Modi; seeks financial aid for Cyclone Gaja

New Delhi, Nov 22: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought central assistance in order to improve the ground situation emerged by the devastating Cyclone Gaja.

The Chief Minister briefed Modi about the majors taken by the state government and submitted a detailed report about the required resources and financial assistance of Rs 15,000 Cr. The Chief Minister also requested for a central team to carry out cyclone's assessment.

The dangerous Cyclone Gaja, which hit the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu claimed the lives of 63 citizens. Regions like Nagapattinam, Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Pudukkottai, and Cuddalore are heavily affected by the Cyclone. According to media reports, near about 2 lakh people are still living in relief camps.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit visited the cyclone-affected areas in Nagapattinam district and took the stock of ongoing relief and rescue operation.
