Chandrababu Naidu lays foundation stone for Godavari-Penna river linking Project

Guntur, Nov 26: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today laid the foundation stone for the much anticipated Godavari-Penna river linking irrigation project. The ceremony took place at Nakarikallu village from where the first phase of the mega project would be initiated.

Addressing the gathering, Naidu said that the interlining of Godavari and Penna would pave the way for efficient water management and people of Rayalaseema region will never face the problem of drought.

With the estimated cost of Rs 84,000 crore, the first phase will be completed by May 2019. Godavari-Penna river linking venture comprises of five phases where the Godavari water from Krishna basin would be lifted to Nagarjuna Sagar Jawahar canal. A brainchild of Naidu, Godavari-Penna river linking programme is being initiated in order to tap the major share of Godavari water which is flowing into the sea. 

According to the action plan designed by the state government, the first lift will be established at Harischandrapuram, second at Lingapuram. The third lift will be construed at Vyyandana and fourth lift at Gangireddypalem. Nakarikallu will have the final lift.
