Subramanian Swamy demands effective security check for Kartarpur corridor

New Delhi, Nov 26: Terming Kartarpur corridor a risky move by the center, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that the proposed four-kilometer-long corridor between India and Pakistan should not be misused for the purpose of infiltration. 
 
As quoted by ANI, the Rajya Sabha MP demanded a full-proof security eco-system where people should register 6 months before for the holy pilgrimage. Citing the reason of international border, the former Union Minister stated that mere passport check is not enough so strong major should be taken in a bid to keep a close tap on citizens coming from Pakistan.

Earlier, the BJP leader lauded Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh for not accepting the invite of the Imran Khan-led Pakistan government. Swamy opined that no Indian officials should attend the stone-laying ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor on the Pakistan side which is scheduled for 28 November. According to media reports, former Cricketer and Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu is likely to attend the event.

Meanwhile, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu, today laid the foundation stone for the Kartarpur road corridor in India where Governor VP Badnore, chief minister Amarinder Singh Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Hardeep Singh Puri were Present.

Kartarpur Sahib, considered to be a holy place of worship where Guru Nanak had spent 18 years of his life which is situated in Narowal district of Pakistan's Punjab province. The proposed corridor will link Punjab’s Gurdaspur with Narowal district.
