Former Odisha officer Aparajita Sarangi joins BJP

New Delhi, Nov 27: Ahead of the 2019 general election and Odisha assembly polls, former IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi today joined BJP. The celebrated officer today called on BJP National President Amit Shah and officially joined the ruling party. 

On this occasion, senior Odisha BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP Odisha Chief Basant Panda and In-Charge Arun Singh were present.

A 1994-batch Odisha cadre officer, Aparajita has helmed various responsibilities such as School and Mass Education Secretary, Director of Panchayati Raj Department, Higher Education Secretary along with Textiles and Handloom Secretary. Before applying for Voluntary Retirement Scheme, she worked as the Joint Secretary of MGNREGA under Ministry of Rural Development.

From 2006 to 2009, She also worked as the Municipal Commissioner of Bhubaneshwar. According to media reports, BJP may field Aparajita from the prestigious Bhubaneshwar Lok Sabha segment.

When asked about her move of politics over administrative services, the officer turned politician said, “I want to work for people on a very large scale. Politics is the only platform which provides this kind of opportunity.” She further mentioned that she will continue to work for the betterment of people of Odisha
