Extending support, Indian Railway transports relief material free of cost to cyclone struck Tamil Nadu till Dec 10

New Delhi, November 28: Squalls of dust, heavy wind combined with incessant rainfall swayed every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Gaja spared no one. Issuing huge loss of lives and basic amenities, the state of Tamil Nadu still recovers from the disaster.

 

In an attempt to help Tamil Nadu in this severe time, the Indian Railway has extended an helping hand. The Railway on Tuesday announced transporting relief material free of cost to cyclone-affected districts of Tamil Nadu till December 10. Government organisations and others deemed fit by the divisional railway managers can book relief material for transport free of cost.

Passenger trains and parcel vans are among the categories that are allowed to transport relief assistance without payment of freight charge. However, it should be ensured that the consignor and consignee is a District Magistrate or a Deputy Commissioner in whose jurisdiction the dispatching or the receiving station is situated, the release added.

The Indian Railways also previously had helped Kerala when the state reeled in the squam of flood back in August. Releasing tons of water supply and food materials had helped the state recover itself from the mishap. Likewise, this time, the Indian Railway has extended its gracious support to Tamil Nadu.

Cyclone Gaja created a huge loss in various districts leading to severe calamity. The Indian Navy has also worked hard in supplying food material and rescue materials to Tamil Nadu.
