Connecting people to holy pilgrimage, Indian Railway introduces MEMU train from Varanasi to Buxar

Varanasi, November 30: Introducing a complete new series of feasible transport system to the holy places in India, the Indian Railways is successfully connecting people to divine pilgrimages. So are you planning to take holy dips in river Ganga? If yes, then you would be glad to know that the Indian Railways has introduced a new train especially to facilitate pilgrims. 

With an idea to ferry devotees to the holy city of Varanasi, solely for taking dips in the river Ganga and paying their respect to Lord Vishwanath, Indian Railways has started a MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) train connecting Varanasi to Buxar. The train will provide end-to-end connectivity between the two cities includes 16 coaches in total.

 

The MEMU train was flagged off by Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha through video conferencing. The train has the capacity to carry 1,500 people will cover many towns and cities on its way. The train has been aimed to run on daily basis and will cover a total distance of 111 Km between Varanasi to Buxar.

To reach Varanasi, people from Buxar can start their train journey at 6:15 AM and reach the city in Uttar Pradesh by 9:45 AM. Minister Manoj Sinha said that, after reaching the city by 10:00 AM, people can visit Lord Vishwanath for ‘darshan’, take a dip in the river Ganga, start their return journey by 6:45 PM and reach Buxar by 10:00 PM.

 

En route, the MEMU train will halt at Chausa, Gahmar, Usiakhas Halt, Karahiya Halt, Bhadaura, Barakalan, Dildarnagar, Darauli, Zamania, Dheena, Sakaldiha, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Kuchman, Vyasnagar and Kashi. The direct train will be helpful for people travelling to Kashi.

The Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) is the Indian Railways designation of the commuter rail system in India for semi-urban and rural areas. DEMU and MEMU are examples of Multiple Unit which are self propelled train carriages which when coupled with other Multiple Units can be controlled by a single terminal. MU train is not hauled (pulled) by separate locomotive.
