Situation goes haywire! Bihar govt dismisses 175 constables for protesting colleague’s death in Patna

Patna, November 5: Violent outrage usually takes a humungous turn letting things out of control. Taking cognizance of the violent rampage that took place in Patna on Sunday, the Bihar government has dismissed 175 police constables and suspended 23 police officials after the death of a female colleague, who was reportedly denied leave despite being ill.

 

Hours after the police constables went on a rampage, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked Bihar police Chief K.S. Dwivedi to submit a detailed report at the earliest.

More than 300 police constables had gone on a rampage on November 2, damaging properties and attacking police officers, after a woman colleague who had reportedly been refused leave died. The lady constable Savita Pathak was denied to take a leave inspite of being ill. She was admitted to the hospital on Friday morning, a day after she was taken off duty due to stomach pain. The hospital reported the reason for death was because she was suffering from viral infection.

Blaming the seniors for putting the lady constable Pathak on duty despite being ill, the trainee constables went on a rampage, vandalizing the furniture of the police station and overturning vehicles of the officials.

Of the 175 police constables dismissed, most were trainees. The government also suspended 23 police officials, including havildars and assistant sub-inspectors.

The action to dismiss and suspend the officials was taken after a high-level meeting of top police officers here. The IGP added that they had recommended action against the Police Hospital for his failure to take proper stock of the deceased constable’s health and give appropriate advice and treatment which might have saved her life.
