Bhubaneswar, November 5: With another successful encounter, five Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with security personnel near Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

The exchange of fire, which has been going on since Sunday night, occurred at Paplur under the Kalimela police station, which also falls near the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Jagmohan Meena said, “Commandos of Special Operation Group (SOG) launched an anti-Maoist operation on Sunday evening, based on intelligence reports about the presence of a Maoist camp in the region.”

It was hinted that Maoist leader Randev, who heads the Kalimela Dalam of the Maoist organisation, was present at the spot. Additional Director General (ADG)-operations R.P. Koche said five Maoists, including a female cadre had been killed in this operation. Arms and ammunition, including two INSAS rifles, one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one .303 rifle and a grenade, were seized from the spot.

Several others are suspected to have escaped from the camp. Search operations are on to track them down. It is suspected that some other Maoists may have also been injured in this exchange of fire. There are no reports of any injury to any security personnel.
