Polavaram radial gates to be installed on Dec 17

Amaravati, Nov 6: On December 17, the Andhra Pradesh government will install the 48 gigantic radial gates for the multipurpose national irrigation project Polavaram. Addressing the 80th review meeting here, Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu asked Polavaram officials to clear the pending tasks before for the D-day.

Setting the deadline of April 2019, Naidu direct officials to speed-up the main works of coffer dam, spill channel,and approach channel. According to state officials, 60.33 % of total project contraction work has been completed and all the issues related to resettlement and rehabilitation will be resolved soon.

Lauding the efforts of stakeholders, the Chief Minister hoped that Polavaram, the life-line of Andhra Pradesh will be a remarkable project in the history of world irrigation. He mentioned that the state government will be able to meet the deadline and water will be released by May-June 2019. In a bid to boost tourism, Naidu directed tourism department to prepare a special tourism road-map for Polavaram.

Situated in the West Godavari district of the Andhra Pradesh, Polavaram is the ambitious project of Chandra Bubu Naidu. On several occasions, Naidu accused BJP led central government of blocking aid for the centrally financed project.
