#AChildIsAChild: UNICEF urge countries to adopt Global Compact for Migration to ensure protection of migrant children

Marrakech, Morocco, DEC 10: In the Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration, UNICEF appalled countries to adopt the Global Compact for Migration with the commitment to ensure the well-being and protection of all migrant children.

 

Under the #AChildIsChild and #ChildrenUprooted, UNICEF recognized issue of refugee children in this conference. The ‘Global Compact for safe, orderly and Regular Migration’ is a milestone agreement that recognizes for the first time that children are central of migration management.

 

UNICEF’s six-point ‘Agenda for Action’ provided a framework to bring these children under this compact and also participated in eighteen-month negotiations for this resultant document, this compact will be accepted at this intergovernmental conference in Marrakech, Morocco on 11th December, 2018.

 

According to UNICEF, between 2005 to 2015, the no. of children refugee world-wide increased from 4 million to 9 million. Almost one in ten refugee children live in areas affected by armed conflicts, more than 400 million live in extreme poverty. Over 250 million people around the world are on the move, so in that 50 million are children. This migration gives hope, opportunity or chance for better life, but so many children became a victim of danger and discrimination.

 

UNICEF works around the world to help the migrant children and make sure these children are safe protected, their rights are respected. UNICEF provide life saving humanitarian supplies in refugee camps and try to find a solution for these migrated and displaced children with the help of governments, private sector and civil society.
