Mumbai, December 12: Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer, sci-fi epic 2.0, directed by Shankar, has sailed over the Rs 600 crore mark worldwide in less than two weeks of its theatrical run. The film, which released worldwide on 29 November, has become the highest grossing Indian film of 2018.

Currently, 2.0 is the eighth highest grossing Indian film globally, only behind such titles as Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK, Baahubali: The Beginning and Sultan. It is the third south Indian film after the Baahubali series to enter all time highest grossing Indian films, which is dominated by Bollywood titles.

The Hindi version of 2.0 has registered the best numbers in India, contributing close to 40 percent of the running domestic total. The film has collected Rs 166.75 crore net from 11 days in the North and is also the top grossing movie of 2018 in the domestic market, besting the totals of other Bollywood hits such as Sanju and Race 3 in cumulative all India takings. If you just take into account the Hindi version net of Rs 166.75 crore, 2.0 is the third best performing film of 2018 behind Sanju and Padmaavat. It has surpassed other Hindi hits of the year such as Race 3, Baaghi 2, Stree and Raazi to name a few.

With a whopping domestic total of Rs 450 crore, 2.0 is also the fourth highest Indian grosser of all time, only behind the mega blockbusters such as Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Baahubali: The Beginning and Dangal. According to trade pundits, 2.0 has the potential to break into the Rs 200 crore net in the North at the end of its full run. But two big releases in Shah Rukh Khan's Zero and the Hindi dubbed version of Kannada film KGF will eat into its screen share from 21 December.

In Tamil Nadu, the Lyca-produced magnum opus is on the verge of breaching the Rs 100 crore mark in theatrical revenue. With 2.0, Rajinikanth has equaled Vijay's record (Sarkar and Mersal) of two Rs 100 crore grossers in the state, including his 2010 super hit Enthiran. It must be noted that the lifetime total of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Rs 148.5 crore, in Tamil Nadu remains unbeaten as of now.
