Enabling ease of traveling, NHAI sets up ‘Highway Nests’ along the toll plazas

New Delhi, December 13: Making traveling easy and feasible for the citizens, the government has come up with an initiative for the travelers. The initiative pitched in by the National highway authority of India has come forward to set up modern canteens at all the “Toll Plazas” in the country. These will be constructed at every toll plaza at a distance of 200-250 meters from the toll plaza.

 

Giving details about the ongoing facilities for the people pertaining to highway roads, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mansukh L Mandaviya in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today informed about the developments made for ease in travelling of the people.

These ‘Highway Nests’ along the toll plazas will enable all the facilities to the people. This new amenity will play a vital role in addressing the needs of commuters during journey. The Highway Nest (Mini) is under construction at all the 372 toll plazas on upside and downside of National Highways approximately at a distance of 200-250 m from the toll plazas.

It has provision of kiosks for sale of dry snacks, tea and coffee vending machine and water ATM etc. In addition, there is a provision of Ladies and Gents toilets at Toll plazas of NHAI for convenience of Highway users. The Highway Nest will also have toilet facilities including that for the physically challenged are also available at these sites.

Concrete work is being done around it and the work on washroom and water, ATM will be done soon. As part of incident management under operation and maintenance of the NH stretches, Highway ambulances are deployed in their respective service area to extend assistance in case of any emergency on National Highways.

NHAI has issued directions to all its Regional Officers that the construction and operation & maintenance of Highway Nests (Mini) may be awarded to State Government managed State Co-operative Societies interested in running these facilities for road users.
