Social worker Sandeep Joshi to get prestigious Prof Yashwantrao Kelkar award for innovations in education

Mumbai, December 13: Out of many entries received from various parts of the country, Shri. Sandeep Joshi, a dedicated social worker from Jalore has been selected as the winner of Professor Yashwantrao Kelkar Youth Award 2018. Shri Sandeep Joshi is being awarded in appreciation for creating and successfully implementing innovations in education in government schools. The purpose of this award is to encourage young social workers and to appreciate their work for the society and motivate the youth.
 
The award will be conferred on Shri Sandeep Joshi on 29th December at 6.00 pm in Prof Yashwantrao Kelkar Youth Award Ceremony during 64th National Conference of ABVP. The event however is set to be scheduled at Karnavati, Gujarat from 27th to 30th December 2018.
 
Dr. Subbiah Shanmugam, National President of ABVP and Shri Ashish Chauhan, National General Secretary of ABVP have congratulated the awardee for this incredible achievement and his family and conveyed their best wishes for his future endeavours.
 
Shri Sandeep Joshi, recipient of this year’s Yashwant Rao Kelkar Youth Award, hails from a humble background. Along with being a teacher of history at Sr. Secondary School Rewat in Jalore, he is a social worker too. To imbibe scientific attitude in students at a young age, he started laboratories in primary schools in order to bring innovations in education. To promote values in education and to awaken the nation, he has initiated Bharat Darshan Gallery. He also introduced School Bag Free Day to reduce the burden of school bags. He initiated Kanya Pujan programs citing girls’ safety and to reaffirm respect for girls.
 
Keeping in mind social harmony, he initiated building of Samras Maa Saraswati Temple in villages with society’s support. Further the seven state governments including Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have incorporated them into school education inspired by Joshi’s initiatives. Today more than 65 schools in Rajasthan have witnessed successful implementation of his ideas for change in school education.
 
It is since 1991 that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad has been giving the Youth Award in the memory of Yashwant Rao Kelkar, ABVP’s chief architect. This is a collective initiative of ABVP and Vidhyarthi Nidhi Trust, both devoted for the upliftment of students and the cause of education. Last year however the award was presented to the social activist from Benglore, Shri Gopinath.
