The private sector must ensure the treatment is not only accessible but also affordable : M Venkaiah Naidu

 

 

 

Chennai, December 3: “The private sector must ensure that the treatment provided by them is not only accessible but also affordable.”, said Indian Vice president M Venkaiah Naidu, during the inauguration of the Rainbow’s Children Hospital in Chennai on 2nd of December this year. Naidu called upon the private sector and partner with the government sector to make the healthcare affordable and accessible to the common man, specifically in the rural parts of the nation.

 

Meanwhile, the vice president highlighted the importance of the health care in the governance in the country. Further he urged the private sector to set up the health care facilities in the rural areas of the country as a part of the Corporate Social Responsibility.

 

He stressed on the participation and co-operation of both, the public and the private to improve the preventive and treatment interventions to the new born children and those below 5 years to achieve the United Nation’s sustainable development goal target of reducing under 5 mortality to 25%.

 

“The most important aspects of any governance of country, it is extremely essential for any developing nation like India to provide a healthy and happy childhood to the lads. Ensuring a healthy and happy childhood to children who are the future of our country, is the responsibility of every Indian, not the government alone. Childhood plays a vital role in overall the physical, emotional and social well being of individuals in the later years.”, Naidu addressed the attendees.

 

“In India, an estimate 24.7 million children are born every year. According to the population census of 2011, the share of the children aged upto 6 years accounted for 13.12% of the total population. The experience in childhood gives profound impact and raise the foundation for the future. A child who is well nurtured emotionally and physically, will be happy and healthy.”, he added further.

 

Shri Naidu said that the miniscule penetration of health insurance at the individual level was a major reason for increase in the out-of-pocket expenditure borne by the households and stressed the need to vastly expand the health insurance coverage of the population in the country.

 

The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, the Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Tamil Nadu, Shri C. Vijayabhaskar, the Minister for Fisheries and Fishery Development, Tamil Nadu, Shri D. Jayakumar, the Member of Parliament, Dr. J. Jayavardhan and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
