Chhattisgarh Police seizes fake Indian currency notes with face value of Rs 5 Cr

Raipur, December 3: Chhattisgarh police has seized fake Indian currency notes with a face value of five crore rupees and arrested two persons from capital Raipur on Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed the two accused from Amlideeh area and seized fake currency notes, printed sheets, colour printer and other material from their possession.


 

According to Police officials, the seized notes were all of 2,000 rupees denomination. The two accused have been identified as a couple.

They allegedly used to impress upon big companies and seek their CSR funds claiming that many other companies have provided funds to them.

Additional Superintendent of Police Prafull Thakur in a press conference informed that a sum of Rs 5 crore in counterfeit currency notes in denomination of Rs 2000, a printing machine, 2 mobile phones and papers used for printing currency and a car were seized from possession of the accused.

The accused Nikhil Singh was native of Patna in Bihar and his wife Poonam Agrawal hails from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, the official informed. Both of them were residing at Rajat Prime Complex in New Rajendra Nagar locality in Raipur.

“The accused used the fake currency in order to take into confidence of the Non-Government Organisations with an assurance to assist them in getting funds from big companies under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which was exempted for taxation under section 80 C and 12 A,” Thakur told reporters.

“They used to show the currency asserting that they too were benefitted with the CSR. The accused were also trying to contact people from outside the state for this purpose’’, added Thakur. New Rajendra Nagar Police after registering a case in relevant sections, will seek judicial remand of the accused couple.
