Karnataka all set for Women’s National Boxing Championship beginning today

December 31, Vijayanagara: The third edition of women's national boxing championships begins today, December 31, at the JSW Sports-owned Inspire Institute of Sport in Vijayanagara, Karnataka where country’s top boxers will be competing for top hounours. The tournament is scheduled till 6th of next month.

The entries received from 31 states and institutions are close to 250. Pugilists will compete in all 10 weight categories which are 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg and +81kg class.

The highlight of the tournament will be when World Championship silver and bronze medallists boxers, Sonia Chahal, Lovlina Borgohain, Indian Open Gold medallist Pinky Jangra and gold medallist at the 56th Belgrade International Championship, Nikhat Zarin along with young and dynamic Manisha Moun who is the gold medallist in last edition of the national championship and world championship quarterfinalist at the AIBA World Championship, will try to upstage one another in the race to claim the top honours.

Earlier this year, a Pre-Asian Games conditioning camp for elite men and women's teams, before the Asian Games was hosted by the Boxing Federation of India. Hence, this championship will be the first time a national event of this magnitude will be held at this facility.

Talking to the media, BFI President Ajay Singh stated, “the nationals are extremely important not just because champion boxers are competing here but because they will prove to be great inspiration for the other participating boxers”.
