Uttarakhand to form research centre for preservation of Himalayan flora

Dehradun, December 4: Himalayan state’s flora will be conserved more carefully as the Uttarakhand forest department got an approval from the state government in November, to form a research body for it.


 

A body named, Centre for Research, Development and Conservation of Himalayan Forestry Resources- an autonomous body- will responsible for the developing and collecting quality seeds of forest species, preparation of quality clones and livelihood issues.

In September 2017, the proposal for the formation of the research society was sent for the first time to the state forest department. After which the proposal was sent to the state government. Sanjiv Chaturvedi, chief conservator Research with the forest department told the national daily that even after delays, the research body has finally got the approval and will start working by the December second week. The body, a first of its own for research, will run on funds from different companies under their corporate social responsibility.

The headquarters of the research body is located in Haldwani district and it will also advice the state forest department in the determination of policies for conservation of the flora of the Himalayan Region.
