India known for its philosophy of “Care and Share”: Naidu voices for empowerment of Divyanga

New Delhi, Dec 4: Expressing his views on empowering the disabled persons in the society, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu has said that “India is known for its philosophy of “Care and Share”. It is our duty to take care of our physically disabled brothers and sisters. Skill development of Divyangjans is very necessary and useful”. The Vice President was speaking on the occasion of International day of persons with Disabilities on 3 December at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi to honour the work done towards the empowerment of “Divyanga Jans”.

The vice president conferred the National Awards on individuals, institutions, organisations and state, etc for their outstanding work for PwDs. A total of 56 individuals and 16 institutions were awarded on the gracious occasion.

While addressing the attendees, Naidu said, “This is a very pious and meaning programme. India is known for its philosophy of “Care and Share”. It is our duty to take care of our physically disabled brothers and sisters. Skill development of Divyangjans is very necessary and useful.”

He congratulated the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for their commendable job.

 
 

While congratulating the awardees, he said that they serve as the role models for others. “There is a hidden talent in every disabled person that needs to be harnessed. Divyangjans need empathy and not sympathy”, said Naidu.

Indian Government has asserted a commendable contribution towards the empowerment of PwDs over the last decade. Six Guiness Book of World Records have been created by Divyangjans. More than twelve lakhs of disabled people have been benefitted from the camps organised for them. Reservations in Government services have been increased to 4% for the disabled.

India has done an impressive achievement in Paralympics for last few years. A total of 4 medals were won by Indians in the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
