#ForMigration: UN women issued clarion call for voices and needs of migrant women in global event on migration

Morocco, DEC 8: World leaders are going to meet this weekend to accept and adopt the “Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration” (Global Compact of Migration) in Morocco.

 

On this occasion, UN women issued appeal for ensuring that the voices, experiences and needs of migrant women and girls in at the center of this meet.

 

Ahead of this intergovernmental conference taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, from 10 December to 11 December, a high level side event will discuss innovative and collaborative approaches to ensure that the Global Compact of Migration is implemented in a way that, it recognizes and addresses the different realities faced by migrant women, girls and boys by promoting and protecting their Human Rights at all the stages of migration, while advancing gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls.

 

The event titled as, “Promoting Human Rights Based and Gender Responsive Implementation of Global Compact of Migration” co-organized by UN women and the governments of Canada, Ethiopia, Germany and Mexico, as well as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the office of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will also discuss the way to promote the immense contribution of migrant women.

 

In support of this process, UN women has developed ‘A Guide to Gender Responsive Implementation of the Global Compact on Migration’. This practical guide will help agencies to understand the ground reality about migrant women and ensures the specific needs and areas for policy making.

 

The policies and practical guide will be formally launched during this side event in Marrakech today.
