Greenpeace India thrashes out the coal power plant for failing to implement the emission standard norms

New Delhi, December 8: The Greenpeace India has thrashed out at the coal power plants in India for failing to implement the emission standard norms timely. In it’s study , Green peace India said that an approximate 76,000 pre-mature deaths could have been avoided if the coal power plants had implemented the emission norms notified by the environment ministry in 2015.
 
Greenpeace also continued to say that India has failed to reduce 48% of sulphur di oxide, 48% of nitrogen di oxide and 40% of particulate matter emission by not complying with the emission standards. According to the report, a five year delay in the implementation of the standards can lead up to an estimated 3.8 lakhs further deaths.
 

 
The deadline for complying with the emission standard norms expired on 7th of December last year. Greenpeace India’s latest study is based on data accessed under the Right to Information(RTI) response given by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Greenpeace India admitted to anchoring local protests against coal mines and participating in seminars where foreign funding is sought for protests but clarified that the source of funding does not lessen the seriousness of harm to the environment.
