Reiterating peace and progress in the region, SAARC charter day celebrated

New Delhi, Dec 8: Prime Minister of Nepal K.P.Sharma Oli greets member states of #SAARC and people of #SouthAsia on the occasion of 34th #SAARCCharterDay. SAARC Charter Day is celebrated on 8th of December every year. This year marks its 34th Anniversary. The South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established on 8 December 1985.

 

The leaders of SAARC nations, the high commissioners, ambassadors from the SAARC member countries, representatives of the SAARC bodies would commemorate the day by reiterating the aims and goals of the SAARC Charter.

Many festivals and ceremonies would also be organized to commemorate the day. The South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established on 8 December 1985. Every year charter day is being celebrated by the organization.

"Promoting peace, stability, amity, and progress in the region", this was the first line of the SAARC charter.

 

The SAARC includes the eight South Asian countries viz. India, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

It has a permanent secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal. The organization was started to promote economic and cultural ties amongst its member states.

The schools and colleges would organize various seminars and talks would be held discussing the importance of SAARC. Various awareness programmes on major diseases would also be organized on the occasion.
