New Delhi, February 11: As our capital has been swirling under hotbed of severe level of air pollution, “Clean Air” campaign was launched to combat the reeling air pollution. Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan launched “Clean Air” campaign to bring down the air quality index (AQI) from "very poor" to "moderate" range within the next 15 days.

Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan was accompanied with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during the launch. During the launch, CM Kejriwal expressed hopes for more authentic and permanent solutions to tackle air pollution.

Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan stressed saying that the campaign will be carried out throughout the year. He also pointed out the need to use science and technology to combat pollution.

He also informed further that the 70 teams that have been constituted have a historic opportunity to get their contribution etched in the fight against pollution.

Environment Minister urged everyone to transform the Clean Air Campaign into a social and national movement.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Kejriwal emphasised that a study needs to be conducted round-the-year on various sources of pollution. He emphasized the need to analyze pollution in a scientific manner. He also urged all concerned Central Ministries and Delhi government to join hands to form a blueprint for mitigation of pollution.

The campaign was cheered up by ‘Greenpeace India’! Terming the campaign a "much-needed step", the Greenpeace India said it was a welcome step considering the severity of air pollution in Delhi-NCR. "As a country, we are well past the stage of discussing what may have caused this nation-wide airpocalypse," it said.

"The clock is ticking and to deal with the issue, the government needs to bring the draft National Clean Air Program (announced last December) in public domain and should start taking comprehensive, systematic and time-bound actions to curb air pollution levels as soon as possible," said Sunil Dahiya, Senior Campaigner Greenpeace India.

Further, he said this should be a major step towards curbing air pollution across the country as both the central and the state government have started coming on a common platform and are discussing the issue in public domain.
