Jammu, February 11: The Indian Army eliminated four terrorists belonged to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terror outfit after a fierce encounter that took place in Jammu’s Sunjuwan military camp. The operation is still underway. 

Notably, two army soldiers were martyred while nine others were injured including women and children after a group of terrorists attacked the family quarters in the Jammu’s Sunjuwan military camp on Saturday. The Indian Army so far eliminated four terrorists of JeM while the operation is still underway to flush out remaining terrorists.

A police officer said, “In the protracted encounter that began at 4.50am on Saturday is still on and the Army is preparing for the final assault. He also informed that bodies of the two terrorists have been retrieved from the encounter site.” "The number of remaining ultras could be one or two," he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the attack seems to be a 'fidayeen', first such attack of 2018. Heavy firing is on. The area was cordoned off after the arrival of the Army's special forces and SOG. Schools within 500 metres of the camp have been asked to remain closed by the district administration.

"Around 4.55am, a suspicious movement was noticed by the santri. The santri bunker was fired upon and they retaliated. The number of terrorists isn't known, they've been cornered in one of the family quarters. The operation is on," Jammu IGP SD Singh Jamwal said. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti reached out to injured Jawans of Sunjwan Attack at the military hospital in Jammu. She prayed for their speedy recovery and good health.

Earlier, on Saturday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of the situation following a Sunjuwan army camp terror attack.The J-K DGP SP Vaid has briefed the home minister about the counter operations launched by the security forces while Rajnath has directed officials of the Home Ministry to look into the matter.

Importantly, the terrorist had attacked the same army station in 2006. Twelve soldiers were killed and seven others were injured in that attack before the two fidayeen (suicide) terrorists were killed.
