Maharashtra soon to phase-out plastic bottles to save environment from March

Mumbai, February 12: Aiming to ban plastic objects to save the environment, the department of environment has urged Maharashtra Government to imply a ban on plastic wet bottles, at starred hotels, government offices, canteens, educational institutions and hotels located at tourist spots across the state. This was part of the state environment department’s plan to ban all kind of plastic bags and items from March this year.

 

The department has issued a draft which is likely to be tabled before the cabinet soon. The other items that is about to get covered in this proposal are disposable, one-time used containers made from plastic and thermocol which are being used in the hotels, plastic bags, flags, banners and non-woven polypropylene bags.

The state department has decided that plastics which are used in four and five starred hotels will also be banned, even those used in government offices, canteens and educational institutions and also in those places which are tourist places.

The environment department has also sought to take opinions from various other departments including industries, tourism, revenue and forest department, over its intention to impose the ban. The departments may have suggestions or objections over the decision, which will be incorporated before placing the draft notification for the final approval before the cabinet.

Ban on plastics leads to ban on environment hazards. The nature and environment has been facing many issues pertaining to the over use of plastic in places which covers many other departments. Therefore if the ban is imposed this will definitely benefit the people and the environment.
