Country’s most lavish paid scholarships: Now PhD scholars to get Rs 80,000 a month

New Delhi, February 12: Government has decided to award a scholarship amount of Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 and annual research grants of Rs 2 lakh for selected PhD scholars as the Cabinet cleared the Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme.

The nation's highest-paid scholarship will be given to the students of higher education institutions. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the PMRF will help scholar undertake their own research programmes within the country.

This will be the country’s most lavish paid scholarships to date. The Centre has approved an allocation of Rs 1,650 crore for these fellows to be spent over three years. Annually 1000 students can benefit from the scholarship.

Under the scheme, students who have completed or are in final year of B.Tech or integrated M.Tech or M.Sc. in science and technology streams at IISc, IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIITs will be offered direct admissions in PhD programmes in IITs and IISc.
