#Padman arrives in Jharkhand: CM Das to distribute sanitary napkins in schools for free

Ranchi, February 13: Jharkhand state has decided to buy sanitary napkins from Self-help Groups (SHGs) for distribution among schoolgirls.

CM Raghubar Das said that the government is committed to creating employment opportunities in the state and trying to eradicate poverty by establishing small industries at the village level. In this series, women self-help groups are being connected with self-employment. Stated CM Raghubar Das while he was examining the production of sanitary napkin pads by the women self-help group at community development centre in Barabasti Bagunhatu, Baradih in Jamshedpur.

“Women self-help groups are more active now. Every person whether he is literate or illiterate is gifted from God with wisdom. All they need is to develop skills for self- employment,” said Das.

The Chief Minister said that the state government has made this provision in the budget that sanitary napkin pads produced by women self-help groups would be purchased by the Government’s Health Department. For this, the state government has proposed a budget of Rs. 25 crores.

He further added that the sanitary napkins purchased by the health department will be distributed to the girls studying in the school. This will not only provide employment opportunities to women self-help groups but the health department wouldn’t also need to buy sanitary napkins from any other contractor or company.
