Islamabad, February 13: The death of deputy leader, Khalid Mehsud, in a US drone strike in Afghanistan's Paktika has been confirmed by the Pakistani Taliban.

The terrorist organisation said that Mufti Noor Wali Wali has replaced their dead deputy. US drone strikes have been escalated since Donald Trump became the US President, although he is yet to reach the peak that former POTUS Barack Obama achieved in 2010.

“The vehicle was completed destroyed,” an intelligence official told The Express Tribune, adding that there were at least three reported drone strikes on the Pak-Afghan border in the last 24 hours.

He was killed along with his nephew Ismail and two guards, The Express Tribune quoted sources.

The group's leaders have nominated Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud to take his place, the statement said, adding Mehsud has "undeterring trust" in Pakistani Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah.
