Enhancing cultural diaspora, 10 prominent tourist sites will be transformed into iconic tourism destinations

New Delhi, February 13: In an attempt to increase tourism and re-establish the tourist sites, Culture Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma informed that the Archaeological Survey of India will work on 10 prominent tourist sites to turn into iconic tourist destination.

 

To enhance the culture and tradition of India, the Culture Department in the Budget 2018-19, tourist amenities at 100 Adarsh monuments of the Archaeological Survey of India will be upgraded to enhance visitor experience. The Budget allocation of Culture Ministry has been increased by 3.82 per cent to Rs. 2843 crore.

The Minister said, Cultural Mapping of India is being done by his Ministry which will create a centralised portal of artists from all across the nation. He further added that it is a matter of pride that UNESCO has recognised India's intangible and tangible cultural heritage such as Kumbh Mela, Yoga, Rani ki Vav and other monuments.

Dr Mahesh Sharma informed that a separate ticket of Rs. 200 will need to be bought for entry into the main mausoleum at Taj Mahal. The decision has been taken not to make more money but to ensure protection of built fabric and better crowd management. There is a need to preserve Taj Mahal for the generations to come. He said, new barcoded tickets will cost Rs. 50 from the earlier Rs. 40 and it will be valid only for 3 hours.

Ministry of Cultural Department is endeavoring to ensure that most of the ticketing transactions at the monuments happen through the e-ticketing route. The Culture Ministry is coordinating with Ministry of Tourism, Agra Development Authority and local Police is being done for handling lapka culture.
