Telangana to pass ordinance for Telugu as mandatory subject

Hyderabad, February 14: Telangana government under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to propagate the much-anticipated ordinance for making Telugu language as a mandatory subject in Telangana. According to state officials, all educational institution including CBSE, ICSE and IB boards will strictly have to implement the order where students from class 1st to 12th will have to study Telugu as a compulsory subject.

On Oct 31, the Telangana government had constituted a panel under the chairmanship of Prof S V Satyanarayana, Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sriramulu Telugu University to study the legal and academic aspects to introduce Telugu as a 'compulsory subject' from class I to XII in all educational institutions in the state. The government appointed body has fixed a three-level module order to easy rollout of the decision. The panel also examined the findings of research conducted by the NCERT.
