Bengaluru, February 15: Now board your flight without using any paper. Walk into the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bangalore without a ticket in hand. Using your biometrics as a ticket, scan your fingerprints for security. The airport cameras will process the features of your face as you wander through the terminal and open the boarding gates for you. This is the technological dive Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) is hoping to take within few months.

While giving out the details about the exciting project, the officials claimed to use the Aadhaar based data services to eliminate the need of paper and also for extensive security check. The details and format to showcase this unique procedure has been tabled before the Civic Aviation Ministry and other authority officials.

While wondering how this process will actually work, it has been noted that the passengers will be asked to link their travel documents with Aadhaar and the machine will scan and recognize the signature initiated in the Aadhaar card and the data saved with the team. Once this is done the airport cameras will scan your face and authenticate your identity by opening the boarding gates for the commuter.

This sort of single-token system is being attempted at other international airports globally, but it will take them another six years to develop a biometric database of their passengers. However, the aviation authorities already have a database and can kickstart it within four to six months.

On similar lines, the Bangalore Metropolitian Transport Corporation has also subjected the use of technology by initiating flight information display systems to be installed, while check-in machines for printing boarding passes and luggage tags will be launched “soon” within the buses. This way, not only will the congestion in the airport would decrease, public transport would also be encouraged. Within the generated app, a developing system will be introduced to reward commuters who come by buses and transport. These reward points can be redeemed within the airport in the retail outlets.

While technology is enhancing its stand on the local and global platform, India is moving straight ahead without looking back. And pertaining to the use of Aadhaar, this seems to gain momentum and display its fair use by authenticating the commuters and masses of the country.
