New York, February 15: Researchers have found that certain grape-derived compounds might be developed as therapeutic agents as they help in treating depression. Also adding grapes to your diet will have the positive impact on your mental health.

A new study has found that a bioactive dietary polyphenol preparation from grape was effective in promoting resilience against stress-induced depression in mice.

Giulio Maria Pasinetti, a professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, in New York City, conducted a study to find new ways to treat anxiety and depression.

Pasinetti and his team discovered a bioactive dietary polyphenol preparation (BDPP), made of concord grape juice, grape seed extract, and trans-resveratrol. BDPP was found to protect against mechanisms associated with depression.

The team tested BDPP with mice that have been living with chronic depression and stress. The researchers also found that mice reacted to BDPP and symptoms of depression improved.

"The discovery of these new, natural grape-derived polyphenol compounds targeting cellular and molecular pathways associated with inflammation may provide an effective way to treat a subset of people with depression and anxiety, a condition that affects so many people," said professor Pasinetti.
