Kathmandu, February 15: Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Thursday announces his resignation to pave way for formation of new government as per people's mandate in recent elections.

Deuba addressed the nation after the final Cabinet meeting of the incumbent government at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar. He briefed the role played by the incumbent government in the immediate past.

PM Deuba will officially present his resignation to President Bhandari today. The left alliance has already presented its claim for the new government to President presenting UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli as the new PM.

Deuba was elected as the 40th PM on June 6 with the support from CPN (Maoist Centre) which is now a part of left alliance and opting for merger with CPN-UML.

The left alliance has a clear majority in the House of Representatives. Oli will take over as the PM for the second time after UML and CPN (Maoist Center) submitted a letter of support to President Bidya Devi Bhandari. The President is likely to appoint a new PM today itself.
