New Delhi, February 16: Today the students are crushed down under the burden of exams, peer pressure, scoring marks, exams etc. To help students face the challenges with stout yet optimistic approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi held “Pariksha Pe Charcha” in Talkatora Stadium with students across country.

Stressing on the importance of adopting a stress-free attitude towards education PM Modi interacted with future minds of the nation to nurture and polish them for bright future. Highlighting the issue of exam stress, PM Modi encouraged students to change the approach and not to treat exams as a matter of life and death.Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar took a stage, saying that “If we have to deliver quality education, we have opted for an output based performance system. Children have to be able to handle education at each level meant for the next level. We are reaching out to more and more children through TV and radio.”

Connecting himself with students, PM Modi advised students to “Respect their teachers, first.” Citing the lessons learnt through intellectuals and philosophers, PM Modi said that "I have read Vivekanand, Aham Brahmasavi; they say don't think yourself any less. They inspired self-confidence."

"Keep yourself in mind while sitting for exams. You decide your future not others. Self-confidence comes by challenging ourselves and working hard. We should always think of bettering ourselves. In addition to the right skills and the means, what a student needs is self-confidence," PM Modi added.

Further stressing on the importance of the concentration, PM Modi said "Throughout the day, we all do something with concentration. What makes you alert? Ask yourself. Then find out why you like it. Find the reasons and adopt it on other activities. Concentration isn’t something that has to be specifically learnt. Every person does concentrate on something or the other during the day, it may be while reading, hearing a song, talking to a friend. I would say Yoga is a wonderful way to improve concentration. Some say it is a way of life, some say it is a form of exercise. I believe it is something higher. If it was just exercise, they would be performing in circuses."

“Find the reasons and adopt it on other activities. Sachin Tendulkar was there with me during one of my Mann Ki Baat episodes, he had said, "When I play, I don't worry about anything - will I hit sixer or not. I forget everything. This is the way. Live in the present." PM Modi added.

Further answering question asked by student over impact of peer pressure, PM Modi said that "Do not compete with others, compete with yourself. But if you have to compete, choose your opponents carefully. Do not bother about how many hours your friends study. Think- you studied for a certain number of hours on one day, better that the next day."

Further PM Modi spoke on expectations of parents during exams which are the main cause of stress; he said "Always remember what every parent sacrifices for the well-being of the child. Parents also live that pressure: They won't waste money because of fees. They dream to see their children as something. We should not doubt their intentions. Parents shift the burden of their failures on their children."

Pointing out at the parents, PM Modi said that "Parents compare their children with others. Don't make it a social status. Talk about your children and do not compare. Every child is blessed with unique talents. I would request parents not to make the achievements of their child a matter of social prestige." Also parents should look upon their children as their friends, once their kids reach the age of 18 years.

Further talking about how to focus during exams, PM Modi said that “If you want to focus, you have to learn first how to de focus.”

Explaining about the Intelligent Quotient IQ and Emotional Quotient EQ, PM Modi differentiated between the two stressing that the balance between IQ and EQ is necessary. Both of the terms are equally important for inspiring ourselves. Though stressing on EQ PM Modi said that EQ is the most important guide to lead our lives with IQ.

Stressing on the significance of Yoga asana, PM Modi spoke on different asanas that would help in boosting concentration. PM Modi also highlighted the importance of ‘sound sleep’, ‘quality sleep’ for healthy mind and healthy body. During exams, sleeping is vital but more important is the quality of sleep,” PM said.

Further explaining the relation between teacher and students, PM Modi stressed that in our society teachers are like family members. Such a spirit was more common earlier and we have to reignite this spirit further today. Sharing his life experiences, PM Modi said treat teachers like the life gurus who inspire students. Further PM Modi said that today many parents are not even aware of the teachers who teach their kids. I want all teachers to be connected with not only students but their entire ecosystem. Be connected with the child’s family too.

Speaking on the significance of effective time management during exams, PM Modi said that for students, one time table or a schedule can’t be appropriate for the full year. It is essential to be flexible and make best use of one’s time.

Talking over choosing career options, PM Modi said that don’t limit yourself with the career, flow along with the opportunities and squeeze them with your potential to become what you choose.
