New Delhi, February 16: After years of waiting the time has arrived and this time railway has opened its door for en bloc filling of over 89,000 vacancies in Group C and D of safety category jobs. Youths with a minimum qualification of Xth Class pass plus holding Industrial Training Institute certificates or equivalent can apply.

This recruitment drive has been started to hire for the posts of assistant loco pilots, technicians, switchmen, trackmen, helpers, porters and many other openings. The hired employees will be extended a monthly salary of Rs 18,000 per month and allowances. The criteria are that the applicants should be 18-31 years of age will be recruited by the Railway Recruitment Cell.

Apart from this for the group D post, there are almost 26,502 vacancies under group C for the post of technicians and assistant loco pilots. As on April 2017, the Group D and C vacancies in Railways stood at 1,24,201.

The Railway minister also tweeted that apart from these vacancies, Indian Railways is also aiming to train 30,000 apprentices this year.

The decision was taken around September last year by the Railway Board almost soon after Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Chairman Railway Board Ashwani Lohani took charge.

While Railways has been filling only barely essential vacancies in safety category arising out of retirement, death or other reasons in the past three years, it had stopped the en masse intake to ward off financial strain on its revenues, which meet the salaries and perks, part of the mounting ordinary working expenses. Around 5-10,000 poeple are recruited in Railways every year across categories. This recruitment is considered as one of world's largest recruitment.
