Ahmedabad, February 18: Continuing the slew of developmental works in the state, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday flagged-off the maiden Ahmedabad-Mundra (Kutch) intra-state flight service introduced by Air Odisha in Ahmedabad.

Notably, the fight service has been launched under the Centre's Ude Desh ke Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme. It connects Mundra (Kutch) with Gujarat's Ahmedabad. Speaking to the media on the occasion, Rupani said that the project is the fulfilment of PM Modi’s dream. "UDAN aims to provide air facility to the common man through regional connectivity," he said.

“Till now, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Surat were all connected to Mumbai, but with this service, these cities will be connected to Ahmedabad," CM Rupani added. He also noted that the state government signed Ministry of Civil Aviation and Airports Authority of India for regional air connectivity which will give wings to the all-round development of the state.

Air Odisha, the Bhubaneswar-based carrier, mandated to fly on 50 regional routes, had received its scheduled commuter operator (SCO) permit from the aviation regulator DGCA last Tuesday. The permit allows a carrier to operate as a scheduled commuter airline.

Besides Mundra, the carrier also rolled out services on the Ahmedabad-Jamnagar route and plans to launch flights to Diu from Ahmedabad as well in the first phase of the rollout. The air operator will also provide connectivity from Ahmedabad to Bhavnagar and onward to Surat in the coming days.
