Mumbai, February 18: Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Navi Mumbai Airport to the nation. Warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, PM Modi was accompanied by Governor Vidyasagar Rao. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the great Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for his intellect and contribution to develop Maharashtra. He added, “Globalisation is a reality of our times and to keep pace with globalisation, we need top quality infrastructure.”
Also, PM Modi inaugurated the 4th container terminal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. This will be India's largest container terminal. The terminal will be able to dock mother vessels and handle the biggest containers ships with a quay length of 1 km.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, being built by the state-run Cidco and the GVK Group which also runs the Mumbai International Airport, is all set to take off at the enormous cost of over Rs 16,700 Crores.
Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources Nitin Gadkari also delivered the inaugural speech highlighting the significance of Navi Mumbai Airport and JNPT Port. The fourth container terminal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust would be India’s largest terminal construct at a cost of Rs 7915 Crores. State-of-the-art infrastructures at 4th Container Terminal will double the capacity of JNPT port by 2022 with which the capacity of JNPT will be 100 lakh containers per year.
CM Fadnavis elaborated about the innovative infrastructure projects which will further enhance the GDP of Maharashtra and ease of living and travelling. PM Modi further will inaugurate Global Investors' Summit - 'Magnetic Maharashtra: Convergence 2018'.
