Howrah sets its target to make itself free from harmful tobacco

Howrah, February 19: West Bengal’s Howrah which has set many landmarks before is now on the way of setting another example by making itself Tobacco free. District Administration has already declared the city as smoke-free. Now, the administration is targeting it to declare it as Tobacco free.

To reach the target a special workshop for Tobacco use control had been organized on Monday noon. At the beginning of the programme, a documentary has been broadcasted. The film has sent out the message that how much damage Tobacco could bring to the users.

Howrah District Health Department’s official Neeraj Kanti Pramanik reminded about that smoking in public is an offense as per Cigarettes and others Tobacco Product act. Breaking the rule could lead to Rs 200 spot fine and the repetition of the act could lead to almost 1k fine. The district officials are taking various initiatives to make these regulations active.

The fine system has worked well for the city, especially for Howrah Railway station area. Now, the administration is aiming to put equal effort in village and city area. Howrah was declared Some Free on World No Tobacco Day.
