Punjab emerging as education hub! AMITY proposes Rs. 1000-1500 cr investment to set up university in Mohali

Chandigarh, February 2: The Amity University on Thursday proposed to set up a state-of-the-art university in Mohali after it got encouraged by the new favourable investment environment in Punjab and the increased thrust of the state government on education.

 

Notably, President, Amity Education Group, Dr. Atul Chauhan along with his delegation met with Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh and shared their plans to set up a campus for 20,000 students at a total investment to the tune of Rs 1000-1500 crores.

An official spokesperson said that the delegation plans to set up the university over 50 acres of land in Mohali, for which they had already been shown some sites in and around Mohali. However, the final site was yet to be finalized, the delegation apprised the Chief Minister.

The delegation informed the Chief Minister that Amity was looking at setting up a Science-focused university, with a multi-disciplinary approach and therefore they proposed to offer flexibility in the structuring of courses as per the requirements of the students.

The proposed university would have a state-of-the-art campus with a large residential student population, said the delegation. They further told Captain Amarinder that they had been receiving a large number of requests from parents of many of their existing students from Punjab for a campus in the state and seeing the huge potential in the region, backed by the investor-friendly policies of the new government, had decided to take up the issue on priority.

Immediately, CM Amarinder Singh directed the state Education Department and the Housing Department to take the proposal forward and extend all support to Amity to ensure the best possible deal for the students of Punjab.
