BMC Budget 2018 announced: Rs 8472 Crores reserved for ‘Urban Poor’

Mumbai, February 2: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the Union Budget for allocating Rs. 40,000 Cr for Mumbai Railway while Mumbai Budget 2018 has stored the big part for education allocating Rs.2569.35 Cr. BMC Budget 2018 has also reserved Rs 8472 Crores for ‘Urban Poor’. 

Today Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC announced budget of Rs 27,258 Crore which is an increase of 8.4% from last year’s figure of Rs 25,151 Crores. 

BMC Chief Ajoy Mehta announced Budget 2018 for Mumbai. The revenue expenses for 2017-18 were Rs 15,866 Crore. This figure was 1.18% lower than the financial year 2016-17.

The civic body has given the push to big-ticket projects like the Mumbai Coastal Road and Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR). The BMC as allocated Rs 100 Crore to Rs 1500 Crore for the Coastal road and Rs 100 Crore for the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project.

 

The BMC has also allocated Rs 9527.8 Crore that will be used for development projects for city infrastructure.

The municipal body has allocated an amount of Rs 2569.35 Crore for education. The BMC has proposed Rs 1 Crore for setting up e-libraries.

 

The BMC has announced a provision of Rs 28 Crore for installing LED lights across the city.

Focusing on fire-safety, the BMC has allocated RS 151 Crore to the fire brigade and Rs 28 Crore for machinery, a total nearing Rs 180 Crore. For fire safety and compliance, 70 posts of station officers, 25 posts for firemen will be created additionally. 28 new jeeps will also be purchased. Overall, the budget has also been increased for the Fire Safety and Compliance Cell in Mumbai.

The Mumbai civic body proposes to install 381 sanitary napkin vending machines in schools. BMC has allocated Rs.10 Crores for Swachch Bharat Mission.

BMC proposes to increase fee/charges of few services like factory permit, license fees for wholesale market, fee for medical treatment in BMC hospitals.

Residents of buildings without OC gets relief as BMC proposes to decide give them water on regular rate. Currently, such buildings without OC pay double water charges.

The BMC has allocated Rs 11.69 Crore for disaster management in 2018-19. The BMC has set aside Rs 538 Crore for setting up 7 sewage treatment centres. A provision of Rs 13 Crore has been made for working women's hostels. The BMC will spend Rs 590 Crore on mastic and asphalt roads and Rs 434 Crore on cement concrete roads in 2018-19.

 

Under Night shelter support scheme BMC proposes to start 25 night shelters. At present only 10 shelter homes are functioning. Rs 5 Crore provision has been made in budget for the same.
