Special scheme to improve air quality in Delhi

New Delhi, February 2: In a bid to tackle the air pollution in National Capital, Environment Minister has said that a special scheme will be implemented with the support of Delhi government and other adjoining states to ensure the safety of the people.

The Union Environment Minister referred to the special scheme in Union Budget to be implemented to address Air Pollution in Delhi-NCR Region in a bid to support efforts of the governments of Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

“Machinery required for institutional management of crop residue will be subsidized. Our scientists are also working to develop a viable process to handle stubble”, the Minister added.

With the support of Haryana, Punjab, UP government and the NCT of Delhi, this scheme will be an effective measure to subsidise the machinery required for management of crop residue as well.

Under the scheme, the Union government will assist the State governments to set up a in-situ machinery for disposing crop residue in a manner that doesn't adversely affect the environment.

The pollution levels in the national capital rose to dangerous levels lasted year, forcing educational institutions and industries to shut down twice in November 2017.
