Delhi markets shutdown today & tomorrow over sealing drive; AAP raises issue in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, February 2: Markets at Delhi will remain closed for two days reportedly as traders’ associations have called for a bandh against the sealing drive, carried out by the Delhi Municipal Corporation.

The Delhi traders’ body will continue their protest though the Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri has stated that the Delhi Master Plan would be amended to take care of their concerns.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accusing the government of not providing relief to the traders of the national capital. Congress party too joined the issue with leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad speaking on the issue.

Soon after the Upper House convened proceedings for the Question Hour, newly elected MPs of AAP, led by Sanjay Singh resorted to slogans taking to the Well of the House.

As three of them continued to raise the protest, Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien assured them that issue may be looked into once they move notice.

Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad too intervened in the issue accusing the government of not doing enough for the traders and business owners in Delhi.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was in the process of amending Delhi’s Master Plan 2021 to provide relief to the traders from the ongoing sealing drive in the national capital.

Notably, Municipal corporations in Delhi have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee. Commercial premises have been sealed for failing to deposit conversion charges according to provisions in Master Plan 2021.
