Faridabad, February 2: Gear yourself for yet another enthralling and unique mela of the year. The 32nd Surajkund International Handicraft mela has prepared to fascinate its audience with the beats of grooving folk dancers from across the country. The Mela is an annual confluence of Indian and SAARC Nations where the artists come together and present their art and handicrafts before the viewers.

 

The theme of the fair is decided on basis of the states and like last year it was the state of Jharkhand which was honored to display its beauty and innovation, this year the crown tops on the state of Uttar Pradesh. At least 20 countries and all the Indian states will be participating in the Mela. The Mela was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Anandnath reciprocating to the transport contract signed between the State of Uttar pradesh and Harayana government.

 
The international tourist calendar, the 17th year of this extravaganza mela has more than a million visitors who throng the Mela during the fortnight including thousands of foreign tourists. The Surajkund Mela is unique as it showcases the richness and diversity of the handicrafts, handlooms and cultural fabric of India, and is the largest crafts fair in the world.
 
The mela, that attracts more than a million Indian and international visitors, is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority and Haryana Tourism in collaboration with Union Ministries of tourism, textiles, culture and external affairs. Representing the ethos of rural India, the Surajkund International Crafts Mela celebrates the unique diversity of Indian traditions and culture. It showcases some of the most exquisite handlooms and handicrafts of India. Handmade fabrics soaked in ethnic colors give a vibrant variety to the traditional mela.

A splash of colours, rhythm of drum beats and joy merge at Surajkund in Faridabad, Haryana during the first fortnight of each February. The curtains go up on the acclaimed annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela from 2nd February onwards till 18th February, a celebration of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage. The mela is open for the visitors from 10.30am till 8.30 pm.

Apart from the handicrafts and handlooms on display, cultural performances in open-air Chaupal where renowned singers, musicians and poets will perform daily, can be seen at the Surajkund Mela. The fair aims to identify languishing and lesser known crafts and to introduce them to patrons. Display of crafts and loom techniques are seen by organizing demonstration sections in the Mela grounds. It also helps to undertake the promotion of export of handlooms and handicrafts.
