Britain will leave EU and negotiate free-trade deal: PM Theresa May

London, February 2: Britain PM Theresa May and EU the two sides of the river which share the same water but don’t want to meet. Same is the situation as Theresa May says the UK will leave the EU's Customs Union and negotiate a free-trade agreement that will be good for Britain and Europe.

   

"We are leaving the Customs Union. Then we are going to negotiate a free-trade agreement with the EU.” says May. "It'll be a separate agreement we can negotiate," the PM added.

The PM said Britain would not face a choice between a free trade deal with the EU after Brexit and striking deals with the rest of the world. The prime minister said she had already spelled out what she wants from the deal and did not believe the UK would have to choose between Europe and the rest of the world.

On the other side, the chief Brexit negotiator for the European Union, Michel Barnier has warned Britain it would have to accept all EU laws, including new regulations, and the supremacy of the European Court of Justice for the duration of any transition period.

He also stressed that Britain would have no decision-making power in the EU during the transition, which the bloc wants to run for 21 months - from March 29, 2019, when Britain leaves, until the end of 2020.

Britain is set to leave the bloc on March 29, 2019, but the negotiations must be wrapped up in less than a year to leave parliaments time to ratify the agreement.
