1300 Cr poured in CharDham Mahamarg Pariyojana wallet: 4.5 km tunnel will cut 20 km from traveler’s map

Dehradun, February 21: Ambitious CharDham Mahamarg Pariyojana will be out of papers as it is taking forming its part. Construction of 2-Lane Bi-Directional Silkyara Bend - Barkot Tunnel in Uttarakhand has been approved which will reduce the traveling time from more than 1 hour to just 12 mins.

 

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday approved an over Rs 1,300 crore project for the construction of a 4.53 km-long two-lane tunnel along National Highway-134.

This tunnel will cut 20 km from passenger’s travel map and will save time too. It will provide all-weather connectivity to Yamunotri, one of the pilgrimages on the famous Char Dham Yatra and also boost development, trade, and tourism in the region along the old NH-94 route, the government said.

 

"The civil construction cost of the project is estimated at Rs 1,119.69 crore, while the total project cost is Rs 1,383.78 crore, which is inclusive of the cost towards Land Acquisition & Rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities as well as maintenance and operation cost of the tunnel for 4 years," the statement said.

 

One of the features of this tunnel will be that it will provide all-weather connectivity to Yamunotri which will an uninterrupted transportation of passengers and goods as well.
