Madurai, February 22: Amidst much fanfare, Superstar Kamal Haasan on Wednesday finally launched his much-awaited political outfit 'Makkal Needhi Maiam'. In an emotional appeal, the Ulaganayagan urged people to join hands to make Tamil Nadu free from social evils like corruption, caste and religion-based discrimination. The national award winning actor maintained that his new political venture would break all established outdated notions in a present-day political system with the help of public participation.

Speaking at the grand party launch event, Haasan said that six 'enjoining hands' symbol of his new political party 'Makkal Needhi Maiam' represents six southern states. Elaborating about the ideology of MNM, the ace actor asserted that he has "picked ideologies from everyone and hence zeroed his party's name 'Maiam' as he did not want to get tagged as Left or Right leaning. The symbol of the party, translated as 'People's Justice Centre', is 'enjoining hands'.


Hailing the political venture of Kamal Haasan, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who was specially invited to the gala event expressed that Makkal Needhi Maiam is all set to redefine the political discourse of Tamil Nadu. Terming Kamal Haasan as real-life superstar the Aam Aadmi Party national convener urged people of Tamil Nadu to reject corrupt parties like DMK and AIADMK. On this occasion, a special video message from Kerala Chief Minister P Vijayan was streamed where he congratulated Haasan on his maiden political foray.


Earlier, the national award winning actor met family members of former President DR A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and took blessings from A.P.J. M Maraikayar elder brother of Dr. Kalam. Informing about the meeting Kamal took to Twitter and said,“Greatness can come from simple beginnings. Actually, it will come only from simplicity. Glad to start my journey from a great man’s simple abode.”
