JK police nabs 11 notorious drug peddlers from Baramulla and Bandipora; contraband substances recovered

Srinagar, February 23: With an aim to eradicate the menace of a drug, Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday nabbed eleven drug peddlers in Baramulla and Bandipora districts. Notably, Pakistan uses terrorism and drugs as a primary tool to exploit youth of Jammu and Kashmir and disturb the stability of the country.

 

An official spokesperson said that Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested eleven notorious drug peddlers in Baramulla and Bandipora districts as a part of its campaign against drug abuse. He said, "As many as 469 bottles of codeine phosphate and about 7,000 capsules of spasmoproxyvan were seized from their possession."

Firstly, Baramullah police arrested two drug peddlers and seized their truck at Kralhar village. The two peddlers were identified as Manoj Kumar Bhat, a resident of Subash Nagar in Jammu and his accomplice Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Akhoon of Khaitangan. The police also seized 460 bottles of codeine phosphate from the truck.

Later in the day, in Bandipora district, nine notorious drug peddlers were arrested by a Police Special Task Force (STF), which was primarily constituted to curb the drug menace. The nine accused were identified as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Waheed Ahmad Ganie, Farhat Bashir Baba, Suhail Ahmad Rather, Sadam Hussain Shah, Rayees Ahmad Bhat and Tahir Rashid Matta.

Nine bottles of codeine phosphate and about 7,000 capsules of spasmoproxyvan were seized from their possession. Three cases were registered under relevant sections of the IPC against the nine accused. However, it is a major success for Jammu and Kashmir police in its ongoing drive against drug menace as drugs are spoiling future of the valley.

Earlier, in the month of October last year, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two smugglers in separate incidents in Kashmir and seized over 100 kg of contraband from their possession. Over hundreds of drug peddlers were arrested last year by Jammu and Kashmir police. In the year 2017, JK police also seized tonnes of drugs including charas, bhang, fukki, poppy straw and brown sugar etc.

In the year 2016, 312 drug peddlers were arrested with tonnes of drugs. According to the official figure, 64 kilograms of charas, 7.5 kilograms of charas powder, 194 kilograms of bhang and bhang dust, 925 kilograms of fukki, 915 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.75 kilograms of brown sugar were seized in the year 2016 from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, in the year 2015 police had registered 375 cases and arrested 442 people and 13 others have been booked under PSA.
