India-China relations matter; both willing to strengthen strategic communications: Wang Yi and Vijay Gokhale conclude

Beijing, February 24: After taking charge as Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing and discussed on wide range of issues catering to bilateral ties. India China aims to boost mutual ties with this talks. India-China relations matter and is willing to work to strengthen strategic communications, said Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale during the meeting. 

According to the press release quoted by All India Radio, Gokhale said India attached great importance to its relations with China and was willing to work with it to implement the consensus of leaders, strengthen strategic communications, take care of each other's core concerns and create a good atmosphere for the sustained and steady development of bilateral relations.

The visit of Gokhale, who was also the former Indian envoy to China, was announced on Saturday by the Indian Embassy through a tweet.

 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that the two sides should enhance strategic mutual trust and accelerate common development in line with the political consensus of the leaders of the two countries, according to the statement.

"We hope that the Indian side will handle sensitive issues prudently and work with China to promote the sound development of China-India relations," Wang said. China and India are both representatives of emerging markets and big developing countries, Wang added.

The brain behind solving the longest face-off between India and China during Doklam issue, who was none other than Vijay Gokhale, took over as New Foreign Secretary.

Also Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit China in June this year to take part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit to be held at Qingdao city.
